According to the Bible·Old Testament·Genesis, humans
built the Tower of Babel in order to conquer nature
and challenge God. In order to punish the human race
and prevent them from continuing to build towers,
God distinguished the languages of human beings, so
that people were scattered in different places due to
different languages, and the building of towers was
abandoned halfway.
In this series of works, various kinds of imaginary
buildings appear in the picture. The air-conditioned
exterior machines are piled up into “tall buildings”. The
moon is also tightly wrapped by dense highways and
buildings. Urbanization makes the city bright at night,
and we look up and never see the stars again. In project
“The Moon Plan Ⅲ”, I fused the lights of the city into a
dark picture to create an “artificial sky”. In project “The
Moon Plan Ⅳ ”, mountains, jungles, scaffolding and
urban architecture are integrated. In the future, it may
be difficult for us to distinguish where the boundary
between man and nature lies. The city is the “Tower of
Babel” of this era. In fact, mankind’s desire to challenge
God and conquer nature seems to haven never faded.
So what will God’s punishment be for future human
beings?
